Velocity Dispersion of Dissolving OB Associations Affected by External Pressure of Formation Environment

چکیده

This paper presents a possible way to understand dissolution of OB associations (or groups). Assuming rapid escape of parental cloud gas from associations, we show that the shadow of the formation environment for associations can be partially imprinted on the velocity dispersion at their dissolution. This conclusion is not surprising as long as associations are formed in a multiphase interstellar medium, because the external pressure should suppress expansion caused by the internal motion of the parental clouds. Our model predicts a few km s as the internal velocity dispersion. Observationally, the internal velocity dispersion is ∼ 1 km s which is smaller than our prediction. This suggests that the dissipation of internal energy happens before the formation of OB associations. Variations in Stellar Clustering with Environment: Dispersed Star Formation and the Origin of Faint Fuzzies

The observed increase in star formation efficiency with average cloud density, from several percent in whole giant molecular clouds to ∼ 30% or more in clusterforming cores, can be understood as the result of hierarchical cloud structure if there is a characteristic density as which individual stars become well defined. Also in this case, the efficiency of star formation increases with the disp...

High-resolution HI observations of the Western Magellanic Bridge

The 21-cm line emission from a 7 × 6 deg2 region east of and adjoining the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC) has been observed with the Australia Telescope Compact Array and the Parkes telescopes. This region represents the westernmost part of the Magellanic Bridge, a gas-rich tail extending ∼14° to the Large Magellanic Cloud. A rich and complex neutral hydrogen (H i) structure containing shells, bu...

30TH INTERNATIONAL COSMIC RAY CONFERENCE Can Ni Synthesized in OB Associations Decay to Co Before Being Accelerated to Cosmic-ray Energies?

Observations from the Cosmic Ray Isotope Spectrometer (CRIS) aboard NASA’s Advanced Composition Explorer (ACE) have shown that all relevant galactic cosmic-ray isotopic ratios measured are consistent with an OB-association origin of galactic cosmic rays (GCRs). Additionally CRIS measurements of the isotopic abundances of Ni and Co have shown that the Ni has completely decayed into Co, indicatin...

Modeling of Unsteady-State Cake Formation on a Fracture in Produced Water Re-Injection Process (PWRI)

In petroleum production, Produced Water Re-Injection (PWRI) has earned much interest among disposal methods of the produced water. However, presence of the contaminants in the produced waters usually results in formation damage in well bores and their surrounding fracture systems. In the present study, modeling of external cake formation on a fracture in unsteady-state conditions i...
